Which longevity fields are closest to people—and which remain mostly research ideas?
The map does not reveal one winning idea. It reveals a steep narrowing: research is widespread, but human studies, trials and visible results are concentrated in far fewer fields.
The evidence ladder gets narrow—fast.
Almost every topic has published research. Fewer have reached people, fewer still have entered trials, and fewer than one in three have a structured trial result visible in the registry data we indexed.
What this means: a topic can be scientifically active without being ready to guide a decision about human health.
The busiest subject is not necessarily the most human.
Senolytics has more matched research than any other topic in this snapshot. Exercise has less than half as many research matches—but nearly ten times as many human-study matches and almost forty times as many trial registrations.
The point is not that one field is “better.” It is that research volume and closeness to human evidence answer different questions.

Similar research volume. A tenfold difference in human evidence.
Ageing mechanisms and lifestyle & environment attract a similar number of research matches. Their human-study footprint is very different.
333 human-study matches · about 2 in every 100 research matches
Explore the domain →3,569 human-study matches · about 23 in every 100 research matches
Explore the domain →How to read it: these are shares of matched activity, not success rates. A laboratory mechanism and a lifestyle intervention naturally travel different research paths.
Of the 115 topics with a registered trial, 62 have no structured trial result visible in the indexed registry record.
A registration tells us a study was planned. It does not tell us what happened.
Cryobiology makes the gap easy to see: 79 registrations, including 35 active or recruiting trials, but no structured results visible in the registry records captured by this snapshot.
Results may exist in papers or elsewhere. This finding is a visibility signal—not an accusation and not proof that results do not exist.
Open the Trial Results Gap Monitor →Most fields are growing. Growth is not the same as maturity.
Publication activity is increasing in 132 of the 180 topics. That tells us where attention is moving—not whether an intervention works.
